Gene: ULBP2
Official Full Name: UL16 binding protein 2provided by HGNC
Gene Summary: This gene encodes a major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I-related molecule that binds to the NKG2D receptor on natural killer (NK) cells to trigger release of multiple cytokines and chemokines that in turn contribute to the recruitment and activation of NK cells. The encoded protein undergoes further processing to generate the mature protein that is either anchored to membrane via a glycosylphosphatidylinositol moiety, or secreted. Many malignant cells secrete the encoded protein to evade immunosurveillance by NK cells. This gene is located in a cluster of multiple MHC class I-related genes on chromosome 6. ULBP2 Gene Knockout Cell Lines represent a cutting-edge tool designed for research involving immune modulation and cancer biology. The ULBP2 gene, a member of the ULBP family of ligands, plays a crucial role in the activation of natural killer (NK) cells, facilitating the immune response to detect and eliminate tumors. By creating knockout variants of this gene, researchers can study the specific contributions of ULBP2 to NK cell activation and immune evasion mechanisms employed by various cancer types.
These cell lines exhibit a distinct mechanism of action; by knocking out the ULBP2 gene, the resulting cellular models exhibit altered expression patterns of NK cell ligands, allowing scientists to investigate how these changes impact immune cell interactions and tumor progression. This knockout approach enables a more nuanced understanding of the tumor microenvironment and the significance of immune checkpoints in maintaining immune surveillance.
The scientific importance of ULBP2 Gene Knockout Cell Lines is underscored by their broad applications in both basic and translational research, including the development of immunotherapies and the elucidation of cancer immunology. By using these cell lines, researchers can identify potential therapeutic targets and assess the efficacy of new immunotherapeutic agents.
Compared to traditional cell lines, ULBP2 knockout models offer unique advantages. Their specific genetic modification allows for the exploration of tumor-immune interactions without the confounding variables present in wild-type models. This directly translates to more reliable and reproducible experimental outcomes, which are essential in scientific research.
The value of ULBP2 Gene Knockout Cell Lines to researchers and clinicians is profound, providing an invaluable asset for innovative research aimed at harnessing the immune system to combat cancer.
