Gene: TTR
Official Full Name: transthyretinprovided by HGNC
Gene Summary: This gene encodes one of the three prealbumins, which include alpha-1-antitrypsin, transthyretin and orosomucoid. The encoded protein, transthyretin, is a homo-tetrameric carrier protein, which transports thyroid hormones in the plasma and cerebrospinal fluid. It is also involved in the transport of retinol (vitamin A) in the plasma by associating with retinol-binding protein. The protein may also be involved in other intracellular processes including proteolysis, nerve regeneration, autophagy and glucose homeostasis. Mutations in this gene are associated with amyloid deposition, predominantly affecting peripheral nerves or the heart, while a small percentage of the gene mutations are non-amyloidogenic. The mutations are implicated in the etiology of several diseases, including amyloidotic polyneuropathy, euthyroid hyperthyroxinaemia, amyloidotic vitreous opacities, cardiomyopathy, oculoleptomeningeal amyloidosis, meningocerebrovascular amyloidosis and carpal tunnel syndrome. TTR Gene Knockout Cell Lines are specialized cellular models wherein the transthyretin (TTR) gene has been effectively disrupted, rendering it non-functional. This innovative product is designed for researchers seeking to investigate the biological pathways influenced by TTR, a protein primarily involved in the transport of thyroid hormones and retinol-binding protein. The effective knockout of the TTR gene creates a unique platform for studying the physiological roles of this protein, including its implications in amyloid diseases, such as familial amyloid polyneuropathy and senile systemic amyloidosis.
The key functions of the TTR Gene Knockout Cell Lines include facilitating the in-depth analysis of TTR's contributions to metabolic processes and amyloidogenesis. By analyzing the knockout cells, scientists can elucidate the mechanisms that lead to TTR misfolding and aggregation, providing insights into disease pathology. Moreover, these cell lines serve as pivotal tools for drug discovery, allowing researchers to screen potential pharmacological agents that may stabilize TTR or inhibit its amyloidogenic process.
From a scientific standpoint, TTR Gene Knockout Cell Lines are invaluable in both research and clinical settings. They enable the exploration of TTR-related pathologies and the development of therapeutic strategies targeting TTR misfolding and amyloid deposition. Compared to alternative models, these knockout cell lines provide a high degree of specificity and relevance to human diseases, eliminating confounding factors associated with non-specific gene manipulation methods.
The advantages of using TTR Gene Knockout Cell Lines also extend to their robustness and ease of use in various experimental setups, making them ideal for both high-throughput screening and detailed mechanistic studies. Their reliable performance ensures consistent results, which is crucial for reproducibility in scientific research.
Ultimately, these knockout cell lines are a valuable asset for researchers and clinicians focused on understanding the intricate role of TTR in health and disease. By investing in TTR Gene Knockout Cell Lines, users gain access to state-of-the-art tools developed by our team of experts with extensive experience in cellular biology and gene editing. Our commitment to advancing scientific knowledge is reflected in the quality and innovation of our product offerings, ensuring that researchers are equipped with the best resources to make significant strides in their work.
