Gene: MMP11
Official Full Name: matrix metallopeptidase 11provided by HGNC
Gene Summary: Proteins of the matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) family are involved in the breakdown of extracellular matrix in normal physiological processes, such as embryonic development, reproduction, and tissue remodeling, as well as in disease processes, such as arthritis and metastasis. Most MMP's are secreted as inactive proproteins which are activated when cleaved by extracellular proteinases. However, the enzyme encoded by this gene is activated intracellularly by furin within the constitutive secretory pathway. Also in contrast to other MMP's, this enzyme cleaves alpha 1-proteinase inhibitor but weakly degrades structural proteins of the extracellular matrix. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

MMP11 Gene Knockout Cell Lines are specifically engineered cellular models where the Matrix Metalloproteinase 11 (MMP11) gene has been inactivated or "knocked out." MMP11 is an essential enzyme involved in the degradation of extracellular matrix components, playing a crucial role in various physiological processes, including tissue remodeling, wound healing, and tumor progression. By creating cell lines that lack this gene, researchers can effectively dissect the functional implications of MMP11 in various biological contexts.
The primary function of MMP11 Gene Knockout Cell Lines lies in their ability to provide insights into the roles of MMP11 in cellular signaling, migration, and invasion. These modified cells exhibit altered phenotypes and can be utilized to understand the mechanistic underpinnings of cancer metastasis, fibrosis, and angiogenesis. The knockout models can also serve as platforms for drug screening, allowing for the evaluation of therapeutics aimed at inhibiting MMP11's activity or modulating its signaling pathways.
The scientific importance of these cell lines extends into both research and clinical settings. They offer valuable tools for studying the contributions of MMP11 in pathological conditions, facilitating the development of potential therapeutic strategies. Furthermore, their use can accelerate translational research by bridging the gap between basic science and clinical applications, particularly in oncology.
What sets our MMP11 Gene Knockout Cell Lines apart from alternatives is their high fidelity in gene disruption and validated functionality.
