KAZALD1 Knockout Cell Lines

Gene: KAZALD1

Official Full Name: Kazal type serine peptidase inhibitor domain 1provided by HGNC

Gene Summary: This gene encodes a secreted member of the insulin growth factor-binding protein (IGFBP) superfamily. The protein contains an insulin growth factor-binding domain in its N-terminal region, a Kazal-type serine protease inhibitor and follistatin-like domain in its central region, and an immunoglobulin-like domain in its C-terminal region. Studies of the mouse ortholog suggest that this protein may function in bone development and bone regeneration. This gene is hypomethylated and over-expressed in high-grade glioma compared to low-grade glioma, and thus the hypomethylated gene may be associated with cell proliferation and the shorter survival of patients with high-grade glioma. It is also one of numerous genes found to be deleted in a novel 5.54 Mb interstitial deletion, which is associated with multiple congenital anomalies. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Feb 2016]

Background

KAZALD1 Gene Knockout Cell Lines are advanced biological tools specifically engineered to facilitate the study of the KAZALD1 gene's function in various cellular contexts. These knockout cell lines are created through precise gene editing techniques, such as CRISPR-Cas9, resulting in a complete disruption of the KAZALD1 gene. By completely knocking out the expression of this gene, researchers can observe the resultant phenotypic changes, enabling insights into its role in cellular processes, signaling pathways, and its implications in disease mechanisms.

The primary function of KAZALD1 revolves around its involvement in cellular adhesion and modulation of inflammatory responses, critical in various biological systems. Knocking out this gene allows scientists to dissect the contributions of KAZALD1 to cellular behavior, particularly in cancer research, immunology, and developmental biology. These knockout lines serve as invaluable models to explore the gene's potential roles, elucidate interaction networks, and evaluate therapeutic targets within both research and clinical laboratories.

Compared to traditional methods of gene silencing—like RNA interference—the KAZALD1 Gene Knockout Cell Lines offer permanent modifications at the genomic level, significantly enhancing experimental reproducibility and reliability. Moreover, their specificity ensures there are minimal off-target effects, leading to more accurate interpretations of biological data.

For researchers and clinicians, the value of these cell lines lies in their ability to provide significant insights into gene function, paving the way for the development of novel therapeutic strategies. Additionally, the availability of these specialized cell lines accelerates research timelines and ultimately contributes to the advancement of personalized medicine approaches.
