Gene: CTNND2
Official Full Name: catenin delta 2provided by HGNC
Gene Summary: This gene encodes an adhesive junction associated protein of the armadillo/beta-catenin superfamily and is implicated in brain and eye development and cancer formation. The protein encoded by this gene promotes the disruption of E-cadherin based adherens junction to favor cell spreading upon stimulation by hepatocyte growth factor. This gene is overexpressed in prostate adenocarcinomas and is associated with decreased expression of tumor suppressor E-cadherin in this tissue. This gene resides in a region of the short arm of chromosome 5 that is deleted in Cri du Chat syndrome. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms. CTNND2 Gene Knockout Cell Lines are advanced in vitro tools specifically designed to study the functional implications of the CTNND2 gene, which encodes for the catenin delta 2 protein, an essential component of cellular adhesion and signaling pathways. By creating targeted disruptions in the CTNND2 gene, these cell lines facilitate in-depth investigations into its role in cellular processes, including neurodevelopment, synaptic transmission, and cancer biology.
The key function of these knockout cell lines lies in their ability to provide valuable insights into the consequences of CTNND2 loss-of-function mutations. The mechanism of action revolves around CRISPR/Cas9 technology, which enables precise editing of the genome, leading to the disruption of the targeted gene and subsequent alterations in protein expression. This allows researchers to observe the physiological and biochemical changes that arise, thereby elucidating the gene's role in disease mechanisms.
Scientific research and clinical applications utilizing CTNND2 Gene Knockout Cell Lines are extensive and impactful. These models are crucial for the drug discovery process, particularly in identifying therapeutic targets in neurodevelopmental disorders and various cancers. Furthermore, understanding CTNND2's function could lead to breakthroughs in strategies for preventing or treating conditions where this gene is implicated.
Compared to traditional cell models, CTNND2 Gene Knockout Cell Lines offer superior specificity and efficiency in gene editing, reducing the potential for off-target effects and providing reliable experimental results. Their ease of use combined with robust reproducibility makes them an ideal choice for both academic and commercial laboratories.
