CA8 Knockout Cell Lines

Gene: CA8

Official Full Name: carbonic anhydrase 8provided by HGNC

Gene Summary: The protein encoded by this gene was initially named CA-related protein because of sequence similarity to other known carbonic anhydrase genes. However, the gene product lacks carbonic anhydrase activity (i.e., the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide). The gene product continues to carry a carbonic anhydrase designation based on clear sequence identity to other members of the carbonic anhydrase gene family. The absence of CA8 gene transcription in the cerebellum of the lurcher mutant in mice with a neurologic defect suggests an important role for this acatalytic form. Mutations in this gene are associated with cerebellar ataxia, mental retardation, and dysequilibrium syndrome 3 (CMARQ3). Polymorphisms in this gene are associated with osteoporosis, and overexpression of this gene in osteosarcoma cells suggests an oncogenic role. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Mar 2016]

Background

CA8 Gene Knockout Cell Lines are genetically engineered cellular models designed specifically for the study of the Carbonic Anhydrase 8 (CA8) gene, a member of the carbonic anhydrase enzyme family. These knockout cell lines are created through sophisticated gene editing techniques, such as CRISPR-Cas9, which induce targeted deletions of the CA8 gene, resulting in a complete absence of its expression. This allows researchers to investigate the specific physiological and pathological roles of CA8 in various biological contexts.

The primary function of CA8 is to catalyze the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide, contributing to pH regulation and ion transport across cellular membranes. By utilizing the CA8 gene knockout cell lines, scientists can explore the implications of CA8 loss in diverse biological processes, ranging from neuronal signaling to metabolic pathways. These cell lines serve as powerful tools for elucidating the intricate networks that involve CA8 and for studying the effects of CA8 dysregulation in diseases, including neurodegenerative disorders and certain cancers.

In research and clinical settings, the CA8 gene knockout cell lines provide unique advantages over traditional cell models, which often express multiple isoforms of carbonic anhydrase. The specificity of the knockout design minimizes confounding variables, allowing for clearer insights into the gene's role. Furthermore, these cell lines can be used in drug discovery and development, enabling high-throughput screening of potential therapeutic agents that target CA8-related pathways.

For researchers and clinicians focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms of CA8 in health and disease, these knockout cell lines offer a valuable resource for advancing knowledge and informing therapeutic strategies. Our company is dedicated to the highest standards of precision and quality in developing genetic tools, ensuring that our CA8 Gene Knockout Cell Lines enable rigorous scientific inquiry and promote innovative research solutions.
