Gene: APRT
Official Full Name: adenine phosphoribosyltransferaseprovided by HGNC
Gene Summary: Adenine phosphoribosyltransferase belongs to the purine/pyrimidine phosphoribosyltransferase family. A conserved feature of this gene is the distribution of CpG dinucleotides. This enzyme catalyzes the formation of AMP and inorganic pyrophosphate from adenine and 5-phosphoribosyl-1-pyrophosphate (PRPP). It also produces adenine as a by-product of the polyamine biosynthesis pathway. A homozygous deficiency in this enzyme causes 2,8-dihydroxyadenine urolithiasis. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

APRT Gene Knockout Cell Lines are expertly developed cellular models designed to facilitate the in-depth study of adenine phosphoribosyltransferase (APRT) function and its implications in various biological processes. These cell lines are genetically modified to eliminate the APRT gene, effectively creating a knockout model that allows researchers to explore the physiological and pathophysiological roles of this enzyme, which is crucial in purine metabolism.
The primary function of APRT is to catalyze the conversion of adenine to AMP, playing a pivotal role in the salvage pathway of purine nucleotide synthesis. By studying APRT knockout cell lines, researchers can investigate how the absence of this enzyme affects cellular metabolism, oxidative stress responses, and nucleotide pool stability. Such investigations provide valuable insights into conditions such as adenine deaminase deficiency, which can lead to toxic accumulation and cellular dysfunction.
These cell lines hold considerable scientific importance in both research and clinical settings. They are essential tools for drug discovery, cancer research, and understanding metabolic disorders. By using these models, researchers can evaluate potential therapeutic interventions that target purine metabolism, paving the way for innovative treatments.
What sets APRT Gene Knockout Cell Lines apart from alternative models is their high specificity and reliability in replicating the biological effects associated with APRT deficiency. These cell lines are meticulously validated for performance and consistency, ensuring that researchers can obtain reproducible and meaningful data. Their unique ability to mimic the human cellular environment enhances translational research potential, making them indispensable in preclinical studies.
For researchers and clinicians alike, APRT Gene Knockout Cell Lines offer a powerful avenue to unravel complex metabolic pathways and contribute to the advancement of personalized medicine. Their utility in experimental and drug-testing scenarios underscores their value in improving health outcomes.
