PDGFD Knockout Cell Lines

Gene: PDGFD

Official Full Name: platelet derived growth factor Dprovided by HGNC

Gene Summary: The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the platelet-derived growth factor family. The four members of this family are mitogenic factors for cells of mesenchymal origin and are characterized by a core motif of eight cysteines, seven of which are found in this factor. This gene product only forms homodimers and, therefore, does not dimerize with the other three family members. It differs from alpha and beta members of this family in having an unusual N-terminal domain, the CUB domain. Two splice variants have been identified for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Background

PDGFD Gene Knockout Cell Lines are genetically engineered cells specifically designed for the study of platelet-derived growth factor D (PDGFD) and its associated biological pathways. These cell lines have been modified to disrupt the PDGFD gene, allowing researchers to explore the functional consequences of PDGFD absence in various physiological and pathological contexts. By utilizing advanced CRISPR-Cas9 technology, PDGFD Gene Knockout Cell Lines provide a robust platform for in-depth functional assays, enabling researchers to dissect the roles of PDGFD in developmental biology, cancer progression, and tissue repair.

The key functions and mechanisms of action of these cell lines revolve around the signaling pathways influenced by PDGFD. This protein is known to play critical roles in cell proliferation, differentiation, angiogenesis, and the wound healing process. By using the knockout cell lines, scientists can investigate altered cellular behaviors, such as changes in migration, adhesion, and growth patterns that result from the loss of PDGFD signaling. This system is vital for elucidating the molecular mechanisms underlying various diseases, especially fibrotic conditions and tumors where PDGFD expression is implicated.

In a research context, PDGFD Gene Knockout Cell Lines are invaluable tools for preclinical studies aimed at drug discovery and therapeutic development. They can also facilitate the understanding of complex cellular responses to environmental stimuli or therapeutic agents. Clinically, insights gained through these models may lead to novel interventions for conditions like cancer or cardiovascular diseases that involve PDGFD dysregulation.
