Gene: ANGPTL4
Official Full Name: angiopoietin like 4provided by HGNC
Gene Summary: This gene encodes a glycosylated, secreted protein containing a C-terminal fibrinogen domain. The encoded protein is induced by peroxisome proliferation activators and functions as a serum hormone that regulates glucose homeostasis, lipid metabolism, and insulin sensitivity. This protein can also act as an apoptosis survival factor for vascular endothelial cells and can prevent metastasis by inhibiting vascular growth and tumor cell invasion. The C-terminal domain may be proteolytically-cleaved from the full-length secreted protein. Decreased expression of this gene has been associated with type 2 diabetes. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. This gene was previously referred to as ANGPTL2 but has been renamed ANGPTL4. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2013]

ANGPTL4 Gene Knockout Cell Lines are engineered cellular systems designed to facilitate the investigation of the angiopoietin-like 4 (ANGPTL4) gene's role in various biological processes. These cell lines are created through sophisticated genetic editing techniques, such as CRISPR/Cas9, resulting in the targeted deletion of the ANGPTL4 gene. This knockout approach enables researchers to dissect the gene’s functions and its impact on lipid metabolism, glucose homeostasis, and cancer progression, making these cell lines a critical resource for advancing our understanding of metabolic disorders and cancer biology.
The key functions of ANGPTL4 involve its regulation of lipoprotein metabolism and angiogenesis, making it a significant player in energy balance and cardiovascular health. Its knockout in cell lines allows scientists to explore the downstream effects on lipid uptake, energy expenditure, and cellular response to hypoxia. This is particularly valuable in research settings where elucidating the regulatory mechanisms underlying diseases such as obesity, diabetes, and certain malignancies is paramount.
The scientific importance of ANGPTL4 Gene Knockout Cell Lines extends to both research and clinical applications. In research, these cell lines help unravel the complexities of metabolic signaling pathways, while in clinical settings, they can assist in the identification of new therapeutic targets for manipulating ANGPTL4 involvement in disease processes.
Compared to traditional models, ANGPTL4 knockout cell lines offer enhanced specificity and control over gene function studies, resulting in more reliable data. Researchers will find these cell lines advantageous due to their reproducibility and ease of use, which simplify experimental designs aimed at exploring gene-gene interactions and pathophysiological mechanisms.
For researchers and clinicians dedicated to advancing their understanding of metabolic diseases and therapeutic strategies, these ANGPTL4 Gene Knockout Cell Lines present an invaluable tool that bridges the gap between basic research and potential clinical interventions.
