PTPN14 Knockout Cell Lines

Gene: PTPN14

Official Full Name: protein tyrosine phosphatase non-receptor type 14provided by HGNC

Gene Summary: The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTP) family. PTPs are known to be signaling molecules that regulate a variety of cellular processes including cell growth, differentiation, mitotic cycle, and oncogenic transformation. This PTP contains an N-terminal noncatalytic domain similar to that of band 4.1 superfamily cytoskeleton-associated proteins, which suggested the membrane or cytoskeleton localization of this protein. It appears to regulate lymphatic development in mammals, and a loss of function mutation has been found in a kindred with a lymphedema-choanal atresia. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2010]

Background

PTPN14 Gene Knockout Cell Lines are genetically engineered cellular models designed to facilitate the study of the PTPN14 gene, which encodes a member of the protein tyrosine phosphatase family. These cell lines are generated through precise gene-editing techniques that result in the targeted disruption of the PTPN14 gene, allowing researchers to explore its functional roles in cellular processes such as signal transduction, cell growth, and differentiation.

The key function of PTPN14 lies in its role as a negative regulator of the Hippo signaling pathway, which is crucial for controlling organ size and preventing unchecked cellular proliferation. By examining the effects of PTPN14 knockout in these specialized cell lines, researchers can delve into the gene's implicational significance in cancer biology, tissue regeneration, and various diseases characterized by dysregulated cell growth.

The scientific importance of PTPN14 Gene Knockout Cell Lines extends to both research and clinical applications. In research, they serve as vital tools for elucidating the molecular mechanisms underpinning PTPN14's function and assist in the identification of potential therapeutic targets. In clinical settings, understanding PTPN14’s role could provide insights into the development of novel strategies for treating tumors with aberrant Hippo pathway signaling.

Compared to other gene knockout models, the PTPN14 Gene Knockout Cell Lines offer distinct advantages, including high specificity and reliable performance that enable reproducibility in experiments. Additionally, these cell lines facilitate experiments under standardized conditions, reducing variability and enhancing the reliability of results.
