Gene: VRK1
Official Full Name: VRK serine/threonine kinase 1provided by HGNC
Gene Summary: This gene encodes a member of the vaccinia-related kinase (VRK) family of serine/threonine protein kinases. This gene is widely expressed in human tissues and has increased expression in actively dividing cells, such as those in testis, thymus, fetal liver, and carcinomas. Its protein localizes to the nucleus and has been shown to promote the stability and nuclear accumulation of a transcriptionally active p53 molecule and, in vitro, to phosphorylate Thr18 of p53 and reduce p53 ubiquitination. This gene, therefore, may regulate cell proliferation. This protein also phosphorylates histone, casein, and the transcription factors ATF2 (activating transcription factor 2) and c-JUN. VRK1 Gene Knockout Cell Lines represent a powerful tool in molecular biology designed for researchers to study the essential roles of the VRK1 gene, which encodes a serine/threonine kinase involved in various cellular processes. These knockout cell lines are created using advanced CRISPR/Cas9 technology, ensuring precise gene disruption that enables scientists to investigate the gene’s functions in cell proliferation, DNA repair, and cell cycle regulation.
The key mechanism by which VRK1 gene knockout cell lines function is through the targeted deletion of the VRK1 gene, allowing researchers to analyze phenotypic changes that arise from this loss of function. This is crucial for elucidating the gene's contributions to cellular mechanisms and understanding the potential pathogenesis of diseases, particularly cancers and neurodegenerative disorders where VRK1 activity is often dysregulated.
The scientific importance of these cell lines cannot be overstated, as they provide a vital resource for advancing our understanding of VRK1's biological roles in both fundamental research and clinical applications. Researchers can use these cell lines for drug development studies, toxicity screening, and exploring cellular responses to therapeutic agents, thereby contributing to translational research efforts.
What sets VRK1 Gene Knockout Cell Lines apart from alternatives is their high specificity and reliability, enabling reproducible results across different experimental setups. They offer a level of certainty that is essential for validating scientific hypotheses about the VRK1 gene, unlike conventional knockout models that may exhibit off-target effects or variable expression levels.
The value of VRK1 Gene Knockout Cell Lines lies in their ability to provide researchers and clinicians with a clear view of gene functionality in real-time cellular environments, promoting the development of targeted therapies and improving diagnostic precision.
