Gene: PTPN6
Official Full Name: protein tyrosine phosphatase non-receptor type 6provided by HGNC
Gene Summary: The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTP) family. PTPs are known to be signaling molecules that regulate a variety of cellular processes including cell growth, differentiation, mitotic cycle, and oncogenic transformation. N-terminal part of this PTP contains two tandem Src homolog (SH2) domains, which act as protein phospho-tyrosine binding domains, and mediate the interaction of this PTP with its substrates. This PTP is expressed primarily in hematopoietic cells, and functions as an important regulator of multiple signaling pathways in hematopoietic cells. This PTP has been shown to interact with, and dephosphorylate a wide spectrum of phospho-proteins involved in hematopoietic cell signaling. Multiple alternatively spliced variants of this gene, which encode distinct isoforms, have been reported. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

PTPN6 Gene Knockout Cell Lines represent a revolutionary tool for the study of immune regulation and signaling pathways. These specific cell lines are engineered to lack functional PTPN6 gene expression, which encodes for the protein tyrosine phosphatase SHP-1. This gene plays a crucial role in modulating immune responses by negatively regulating various signaling cascades, particularly within hematopoietic cells. The absence of PTPN6 permits researchers to elucidate the effects of its loss in cellular processes, thus providing insights into mechanisms underlying immune disorders, cancer, and autoimmune diseases.
Functionally, the PTPN6 knockout promotes hyperactivation of immune signaling pathways, enabling the study of aberrant immune responses that can lead to various pathologies. The unique design of these cell lines allows for precise investigation of cellular behaviors such as proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis in a controlled environment. Researchers can conduct high-throughput screens to identify potential therapeutic targets or evaluate drug efficacy, making these cell lines invaluable for both basic research and clinical applications.
The scientific importance of these cell lines extends to their applications in developing targeted therapies for diseases characterized by immune dysfunction. By utilizing PTPN6 Gene Knockout Cell Lines, researchers gain deeper perspectives into the complexities of signal transduction and cellular interaction dynamics, which may contribute to groundbreaking advancements in personalized medicine.
