Gene: PROS1
Official Full Name: protein Sprovided by HGNC
Gene Summary: This gene encodes a vitamin K-dependent plasma protein that functions as a cofactor for the anticoagulant protease, activated protein C (APC) to inhibit blood coagulation. It is found in plasma in both a free, functionally active form and also in an inactive form complexed with C4b-binding protein. Mutations in this gene result in autosomal dominant hereditary thrombophilia. An inactive pseudogene of this locus is located at an adjacent region on chromosome 3. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms that may undergo similar processing to generate mature protein. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2015]

PROS1 Gene Knockout Cell Lines represent a pivotal tool in molecular biology for studying the functional role of the protein encoded by the PROS1 gene, which is implicated in various biological processes, including coagulation and inflammation. These cell lines are meticulously engineered to exhibit a complete knockout of the PROS1 gene, allowing researchers to observe the phenotypic and genotypic consequences of the absence of this protein in a controlled environment.
The key function of these cell lines lies in their ability to facilitate in-depth investigations into the mechanistic pathways affected by PROS1. The absence of PROS1 leads to significant alterations in cellular behavior, including dysregulation in apoptosis, immune response modulation, and changes in cellular adhesion properties. This makes the PROS1 Gene Knockout Cell Lines invaluable for understanding diseases linked to coagulation disorders and immune system dysfunctions, providing valuable insights into potential therapeutic targets and strategies.
In terms of scientific importance, these knockout cell lines are extensively utilized in both research and clinical settings. Their applications include drug screening, pathophysiological studies, and the exploration of gene therapy outcomes, thereby enabling a clearer understanding of therapeutic interventions. Compared to traditional models, these cell lines offer greater specificity, reliability, and reproducibility, enabling more robust data collection.
The unique selling points of PROS1 Gene Knockout Cell Lines include their precise gene-editing technology that ensures a high efficiency of gene disruption, coupled with validated background cell lines that are adaptable to various experimental conditions. This quality greatly enhances experimental design, providing a more nuanced understanding of PROS1's role in health and disease.
