Gene: FKBP5
Official Full Name: FKBP prolyl isomerase 5provided by HGNC
Gene Summary: The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the immunophilin protein family, which play a role in immunoregulation and basic cellular processes involving protein folding and trafficking. This encoded protein is a cis-trans prolyl isomerase that binds to the immunosuppressants FK506 and rapamycin. It is thought to mediate calcineurin inhibition. It also interacts functionally with mature hetero-oligomeric progesterone receptor complexes along with the 90 kDa heat shock protein and P23 protein. This gene has been found to have multiple polyadenylation sites. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.[provided by RefSeq, Mar 2009]

FKBP5 Gene Knockout Cell Lines are specially engineered cellular models that have had the FKBP5 gene, known to play a critical role in stress response and glucocorticoid signaling, disrupted to achieve ablation of its functional output. These knockout cell lines are produced using advanced CRISPR/Cas9 gene-editing technology, which allows for precise modification at the genomic level. By eliminating FKBP5 expression, researchers can better study the gene's contributions to a range of physiological and pathological processes, including its involvement in psychiatric disorders, stress adaptation, and immune response.
The primary function of FKBP5 is as a co-chaperone that regulates the activation of the glucocorticoid receptor (GR), thereby influencing gene expression pathways involved in the body's response to stress. The knockout of FKBP5 enhances understanding of its regulatory role in GR signaling, enabling researchers to dissect the molecular mechanisms underlying stress-related diseases. Such insights are invaluable for the development of targeted therapies and personalized medicine approaches in clinical settings.
The scientific importance of FKBP5 Gene Knockout Cell Lines extends beyond basic research; they serve as critical tools for drug screening, biomarker discovery, and elucidating the pathways associated with stress disorders. What distinguishes our FKBP5 knockout lines from alternatives is their high efficiency and reproducibility, alongside validated phenotypic characterization, which ensures that they consistently reflect the changes associated with FKBP5 loss.
These cell lines are not only vital for basic research but also hold considerable promise in the biopharmaceutical industry for therapeutic development. Their use can accelerate drug discovery processes, particularly for treatments aimed at modulating stress response and related conditions.
