ARRB1 Knockout Cell Lines

Gene: ARRB1

Official Full Name: arrestin beta 1provided by HGNC

Gene Summary: Members of arrestin/beta-arrestin protein family are thought to participate in agonist-mediated desensitization of G-protein-coupled receptors and cause specific dampening of cellular responses to stimuli such as hormones, neurotransmitters, or sensory signals. Arrestin beta 1 is a cytosolic protein and acts as a cofactor in the beta-adrenergic receptor kinase (BARK) mediated desensitization of beta-adrenergic receptors. Besides the central nervous system, it is expressed at high levels in peripheral blood leukocytes, and thus the BARK/beta-arrestin system is believed to play a major role in regulating receptor-mediated immune functions. Alternatively spliced transcripts encoding different isoforms of arrestin beta 1 have been described. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2011]

Background

ARRB1 Gene Knockout Cell Lines are advanced cellular models designed to facilitate the study of the arrestin beta-1 (ARRB1) protein's role in various biological processes, including signaling pathways and cell receptor regulation. These cell lines are genetically altered to disrupt the expression of the ARRB1 gene, effectively providing a controlled environment for researchers to investigate the functional consequences of ARRB1 loss.

The primary mechanism of these knockout cell lines involves the disruption of ARRB1 interactions with G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), impacting downstream signaling cascades. By employing techniques such as CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing, these cell lines enable scientists to explore the nuances of receptor desensitization, internalization, and cellular response in a way that was not previously possible with wild-type cell lines.

In terms of scientific importance, ARRB1 gene knockout cell lines are crucial for both foundational research and therapeutic development. They offer insights that can help elucidate the complexities of diseases where GPCR signaling is altered, including cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and neurological disorders. Such insights are vital for the advancement of targeted therapies and drug design strategies.

Compared to conventional methods of studying gene function, such as pharmacological inhibition or overexpression systems, ARRB1 knockout cell lines present a versatile and robust alternative. They help mitigate off-target effects and provide clearer interpretations of gene function. This specificity and precision make them a preferred choice for researchers aiming for reproducibility and validation in their studies.

For researchers and clinicians alike, the value of ARRB1 Gene Knockout Cell Lines lies in their ability to advance understanding of critical signaling mechanisms, thereby guiding the development of novel therapeutic approaches. By investing in this product, users will capitalize on the latest advancements in genetic engineering, enhancing the quality and impact of their research.
