AGT Knockout Cell Lines

Gene: AGT

Official Full Name: angiotensinogenprovided by HGNC

Gene Summary: The protein encoded by this gene, pre-angiotensinogen or angiotensinogen precursor, is expressed in the liver and is cleaved by the enzyme renin in response to lowered blood pressure. The resulting product, angiotensin I, is then cleaved by angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) to generate the physiologically active enzyme angiotensin II. The protein is involved in maintaining blood pressure, body fluid and electrolyte homeostasis, and in the pathogenesis of essential hypertension and preeclampsia. Mutations in this gene are associated with susceptibility to essential hypertension, and can cause renal tubular dysgenesis, a severe disorder of renal tubular development. Defects in this gene have also been associated with non-familial structural atrial fibrillation, and inflammatory bowel disease. [provided by RefSeq, Nov 2019]

Background

AGT Gene Knockout Cell Lines are specialized cell cultures that have been genetically engineered to lack the expression of the AGT gene, which encodes for angiotensinogen, a precursor to angiotensin peptides involved in blood pressure regulation and fluid balance. These cell lines serve as vital tools for researchers aiming to investigate the role of AGT in various physiological and pathological contexts, including cardiovascular diseases, developmental biology, and endocrine functions.

The creation of AGT Gene Knockout Cell Lines utilizes CRISPR-Cas9 technology to precisely edit the genome of the host cells, effectively knocking out the AGT gene. This targeted approach allows scientists to study the consequences of AGT deficiency in a controlled environment, including alterations in signaling pathways, cellular responses to hormone stimulation, and overall cellular physiology. Researchers can employ these cell lines to investigate the mechanistic underpinnings of diseases associated with dysregulated angiotensin pathways, thereby advancing our understanding of related health conditions.

The scientific importance of AGT Gene Knockout Cell Lines is underscored by their application in both basic and translational research. They facilitate the screening of therapeutic compounds, the study of gene function and interaction, and provide a relevant model for understanding the intricacies of the renin-angiotensin system. Furthermore, in clinical studies, these cell lines can assist in the development of personalized medicine approaches, especially in understanding patient responses to therapies targeting the renin-angiotensin system.

Compared to conventional cell lines, our AGT Gene Knockout Cell Lines boast superior specificity and reliability in modeling AGT-related biological processes. Many alternative models fail to accurately depict the pathological states of AGT knockout, often due to compensatory mechanisms present in wild-type cells. Our offerings deliver consistent, reproducible results that enhance the validity of experimental outcomes.

For researchers and clinicians focused on cardiovascular health, metabolic disorders, or any investigations into mitogenic pathways influenced by angiotensin, the AGT Gene Knockout Cell Lines represent an invaluable asset. The precise genetic modification, combined with our commitment to quality and innovation, positions our product at the forefront of biological research tools.
