Gene: PTK6
Official Full Name: protein tyrosine kinase 6provided by HGNC
Gene Summary: The protein encoded by this gene is a cytoplasmic nonreceptor protein kinase which may function as an intracellular signal transducer in epithelial tissues. Overexpression of this gene in mammary epithelial cells leads to sensitization of the cells to epidermal growth factor and results in a partially transformed phenotype. Expression of this gene has been detected at low levels in some breast tumors but not in normal breast tissue. The encoded protein has been shown to undergo autophosphorylation. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2012]

PTK6 Gene Knockout Cell Lines are genetically engineered cell lines in which the protein tyrosine kinase 6 (PTK6) gene has been disrupted. This knockout results in the loss of function of the PTK6 protein, allowing researchers to study the role of this specific kinase in various biological processes. PTK6 plays a crucial role in signaling pathways related to cell proliferation, survival, and differentiation, making its knockout cell lines invaluable for understanding oncogenic transformation and other pathophysiological conditions.
The primary function of PTK6 is to inhibit the proliferation of epithelial cells, a mechanism that is often disrupted in cancer. By utilizing these knockout cell lines, researchers can explore the downstream effects of PTK6 absence on cell signaling and gene expression. Mechanistically, the absence of PTK6 alters pathways such as the MAPK/ERK pathway, contributing to enhanced cell growth and survival. This makes these cell lines particularly important for investigating cancer biology and therapeutic responses, as they can provide insights into potential targets for novel cancer therapies.
In research and clinical settings, PTK6 Gene Knockout Cell Lines are essential for dissecting the contributions of PTK6 to tumorigenesis and understanding its interactions with other molecular players in cancer. The detailed study of PTK6's function may lead to breakthroughs in targeted cancer therapies, ultimately improving patient outcomes.
Compared to alternative products, PTK6 Knockout Cell Lines offer higher specificity and reliability for researchers focusing on epithelial cancers. Their precise genetic targeting ensures that the observed phenotypic changes are directly attributable to the absence of PTK6, thus enhancing experimental rigor. Additionally, these lines are readily available and can be easily integrated into a variety of in vitro studies.
