Gene: IL1B
Official Full Name: interleukin 1 betaprovided by HGNC
Gene Summary: The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the interleukin 1 cytokine family. This cytokine is produced by activated macrophages as a proprotein, which is proteolytically processed to its active form by caspase 1 (CASP1/ICE). This cytokine is an important mediator of the inflammatory response, and is involved in a variety of cellular activities, including cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. The induction of cyclooxygenase-2 (PTGS2/COX2) by this cytokine in the central nervous system (CNS) is found to contribute to inflammatory pain hypersensitivity. Similarly, IL-1B has been implicated in human osteoarthritis pathogenesis. Patients with severe Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) present elevated levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1B in bronchial alveolar lavage fluid samples. The lung damage induced by the Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is to a large extent, a result of the inflammatory response promoted by cytokines such as IL-1B. This gene and eight other interleukin 1 family genes form a cytokine gene cluster on chromosome 2. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2020]

IL1B Gene Knockout Cell Lines are specialized cellular models that have been genetically engineered to disrupt the expression of the Interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) gene. This product is essential for researchers studying the role of IL-1β in various biological processes, particularly in inflammation and immune responses. By utilizing CRISPR-Cas9 technology, these cell lines have been precisely modified to provide insights into the functions of IL-1β without the confounding variables associated with its expression.
The primary function of IL1B Gene Knockout Cell Lines is to serve as a tool for elucidating the signaling pathways and molecular mechanisms influenced by IL-1β. By examining these knockout lines, scientists can explore the effects on cytokine secretion, cell proliferation, and apoptosis under different experimental conditions. This allows for a deeper understanding of how IL-1β contributes to pathological conditions such as autoimmune diseases, chronic inflammatory disorders, and cancer.
Scientifically, the value of these cell lines is profound as they provide a clean background for studying the complex roles of IL-1β in both in vitro and in vivo models. They are invaluable for drug discovery, biomarker identification, and therapeutic target validation, making them ideal for use in both academic and clinical research settings.
When compared to other models, our IL1B Gene Knockout Cell Lines stand out for their high specificity and reproducibility. Unlike traditional knockdown techniques which may leave residual gene expression, our knockout lines ensure complete functional ablation of the IL-1β gene, thus producing more reliable data.
For researchers and clinicians looking to advance their understanding of inflammatory responses or develop targeted therapies, the IL1B Gene Knockout Cell Lines offer a robust solution that can streamline experiments and enhance data integrity.
