ACTG2 Knockout Cell Lines

Gene: ACTG2

Official Full Name: actin gamma 2, smooth muscleprovided by HGNC

Gene Summary: Actins are highly conserved proteins that are involved in various types of cell motility and in the maintenance of the cytoskeleton. Three types of actins, alpha, beta and gamma, have been identified in vertebrates. Alpha actins are found in muscle tissues and are a major constituent of the contractile apparatus. The beta and gamma actins co-exist in most cell types as components of the cytoskeleton and as mediators of internal cell motility. This gene encodes actin gamma 2; a smooth muscle actin found in enteric tissues. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms. Based on similarity to peptide cleavage of related actins, the mature protein of this gene is formed by removal of two N-terminal peptides.[provided by RefSeq, Dec 2010]

Background

ACTG2 Gene Knockout Cell Lines are specialized cell lines engineered to exhibit the absence of the actin gamma 2 (ACTG2) gene, which plays a central role in the contraction of smooth muscle tissues. These cell lines serve as a pivotal resource for researchers investigating the physiological and pathological roles of ACTG2 in various biological processes, including gastrointestinal motility, bladder function, and cardiovascular regulation. By knocking out this specific gene, the cell lines provide a controlled environment to study the consequences of ACTG2 deficiency, thereby elucidating the molecular mechanisms involved in smooth muscle contraction and related disorders.

The ACTG2 gene encodes a key protein that contributes to the structural integrity and functionality of the cytoskeleton in smooth muscle cells. The absence of this gene triggers distinctive cellular responses that researchers can analyze, facilitating a deeper understanding of various conditions such as intestinal pseudo-obstruction and certain heritable myopathies. This functional impairment induced by the knockout allows scientists to explore potential therapeutic strategies and the development of pharmacological interventions to restore normal muscle function.

From a scientific standpoint, these cell lines are invaluable tools in research and clinical settings. They offer a reliable platform for drug screening, functional studies, and the evaluation of gene therapy approaches targeting smooth muscle-related diseases. Compared to alternatives, these ACTG2 gene knockout cell lines are extensively characterized, ensuring reproducibility and reliability in experimental outcomes, which is crucial for advancing research efforts.

For researchers and clinicians focused on muscle biology, genetics, and pharmacology, ACTG2 Gene Knockout Cell Lines represent an essential toolkit that unlocks new avenues for understanding the complexity of smooth muscle function and its diseases. Our company prides itself on delivering high-quality biological products backed by rigorous scientific validation, enabling researchers to achieve their goals with confidence and precision in their studies.
