Lipopolysaccharide (Escherichia coli 026:B6)

Overview

This product is a 0.2 um filtered aqueous solution containing 1 mg/mL lipopolysaccharide (LPS) from Escherichia coli serotype O26:B6. The LPS used for preparing the solution was purified by phenol extraction and gel filtration chromatography. Lipopolysaccharide prepared by phenol extraction contains up to 60% RNA and less than 1% protein. Subsequent purification by gel filtration chromatography can remove most of the proteins present in the LPS extracted by phenol, but the resulting product still contains 10-20% nucleic acids. Further purification using ion exchange chromatography yields an LPS product containing <1% protein and <1% RNA.
