Overview

Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is a characteristic component of the cell wall of Gram-negative bacteria. LPS and its lipid A component stimulate cells of the innate immune system via Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), a member of the Toll-like receptor protein family that recognizes common pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs). This product is extracted from Salmonella typhimurium using phenol and has been used to induce NOS in rats and guinea pigs.
