Overview

Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is located on the outer layer of the membrane and is exposed on the cell surface in non-encapsulated strains. They contribute to the integrity of the outer membrane and protect cells from the action of bile salts and lipophilic antibiotics. The product was obtained by TCA extraction from Escherichia coli serotype O55:B5. The source strain is CDC 1644-70.
