Gene: PDGFRB
Official Full Name: platelet derived growth factor receptor betaprovided by HGNC
Gene Summary: The protein encoded by this gene is a cell surface tyrosine kinase receptor for members of the platelet-derived growth factor family. These growth factors are mitogens for cells of mesenchymal origin. The identity of the growth factor bound to a receptor monomer determines whether the functional receptor is a homodimer (PDGFB or PDGFD) or a heterodimer (PDGFA and PDGFB). This gene is essential for normal development of the cardiovascular system and aids in rearrangement of the actin cytoskeleton. This gene is flanked on chromosome 5 by the genes for granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor and macrophage-colony stimulating factor receptor; all three genes may be implicated in the 5-q syndrome. A translocation between chromosomes 5 and 12, that fuses this gene to that of the ETV6 gene, results in chronic myeloproliferative disorder with eosinophilia. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2017]

PDGFRB Gene Knockout Cell Lines are genetically engineered cell lines in which the platelet-derived growth factor receptor beta (PDGFRB) gene has been systematically disrupted, allowing for the study of its physiological roles and implications in various biological processes. PDGFRB is a critical receptor involved in cell proliferation, survival, and migration, playing a pivotal role in development and tissue homeostasis. By knocking out this gene, researchers can investigate the downstream signaling pathways and cellular mechanisms that are normally regulated by PDGFRB.
These cell lines function as valuable experimental models for exploring the ramifications of PDGFRB loss on cellular behavior and phenotype. The knockout can elucidate its involvement in conditions such as fibrosis, cancer, and vasculopathy, making it an essential tool in both basic research and therapeutic development. Researchers are particularly interested in how PDGFRB gene knockout affects the response of cells to various growth factors and stressors, providing insights that are critical in drug discovery and development.
Compared to alternative models, such as knockdown approaches, PDGFRB Gene Knockout Cell Lines offer a complete absence of the gene and its functional pathways. This can yield clearer, more reproducible experimental outcomes, which are vital for validating hypotheses surrounding PDGFRB-related processes. Additionally, these cell lines are compatible with high-throughput screening, enabling researchers to efficiently evaluate numerous compounds or conditions.
For researchers and clinicians focusing on targeted therapies and biomarker identification, the availability of these cell lines enhances experimental design flexibility and the relevancy of findings. The implications of this product extend into translational research, where understanding tumor microenvironments or tissue repair mechanisms can guide patient treatment strategies.
