VEZT Knockout Cell Lines

Gene: VEZT

Official Full Name: vezatin, adherens junctions transmembrane proteinprovided by HGNC

Gene Summary: This gene encodes a transmembrane protein which has been localized to adherens junctions and shown to bind to myosin VIIA. Examination of expression of this gene in gastric cancer tissues have shown that expression is decreased which appears to be related to hypermethylation of the promoter. Expression of this gene may also be inhibited by binding of a specific microRNA to a target sequence in the 3' UTR of the transcripts. A pseudogene of this gene is located on the X chromosome. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, May 2011]

Background

VEZT Gene Knockout Cell Lines represent a robust genetic tool used in cellular and molecular biology to elucidate gene function and explore the impact of specific genetic alterations on cellular behavior. These cell lines are engineered through CRISPR/Cas9 technology to specifically inactivate or "knock out" the VEZT gene, which encodes the protein vestigial-like 1 (Vezatin), a key player in cell adhesion and signaling pathways.

The primary function of VEZT Gene Knockout Cell Lines lies in their ability to provide a controlled environment for investigating the downstream effects of the VEZT gene's absence. By studying these knockout models, researchers can elucidate fundamental biological processes, including cellular migration, proliferation, and apoptosis. This mechanistic insight is critical for understanding the role of VEZT in both normal physiology and disease states, particularly in cancer biology, where cell adhesion properties are significantly altered.

The scientific importance of VEZT Gene Knockout Cell Lines is underscored by their wide applicability in research and clinical settings. These models facilitate high-throughput screening for drug responses, enabling the identification of novel therapeutic targets in pathologies linked to aberrant cell adhesion. Furthermore, researchers can leverage these knockout lines for gene editing studies, enabling investigations into compensatory pathways and interactions that may arise from the loss of VEZT function.

Compared to traditional RNA interference approaches, the VEZT Gene Knockout Cell Lines offer distinct advantages, including a more permanent and complete inactivation of the target gene, thereby providing a clearer picture of gene function. Additionally, these lines cultivate a more stable and homogenous cell population, reducing variability inherent to transient knockdown methods.

For researchers and clinicians keen on unraveling the complexities of gene function and its implications in health and disease, VEZT Gene Knockout Cell Lines present an indispensable resource. They enhance the potential for innovative discoveries that can translate into therapeutic advancements.
