USP21 Knockout Cell Lines

Gene: USP21

Official Full Name: ubiquitin specific peptidase 21provided by HGNC

Gene Summary: This gene encodes a member of the C19 peptidase family, also known as family 2 of ubiquitin carboxy-terminal hydrolases. The encoded protein cleaves ubiquitin from ubiquitinated proteins for recycling in intracellular protein degradation. The encoded protein is also able to release NEDD8, a ubiquitin-like protein, from NEDD8-conjugated proteins. This gene has been referred to as USP16 and USP23 but is now known as USP21. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Feb 2016]

Background

USP21 Gene Knockout Cell Lines represent a cutting-edge tool in molecular biology, specifically developed to elucidate the functional role of the USP21 gene in various biological processes. These cell lines have been meticulously engineered through CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing techniques to disable the USP21 gene, allowing researchers to study the downstream effects of its absence and investigate its involvement in cellular pathways related to cancer, immune response, and other critical physiological functions.

The key functionality of USP21 Gene Knockout Cell Lines lies in their ability to serve as robust models for gene function analysis. By creating a specific knockout, researchers can perform comparative experiments to evaluate changes in gene expression, protein interactions, and metabolic responses, allowing for intricate mapping of signaling pathways. This capability makes these cell lines invaluable for dissecting the molecular underpinnings of disease and discovering potential therapeutic targets.

In the scientific community, understanding the role of deubiquitinating enzymes like USP21 is essential because they regulate protein degradation, a significant aspect of maintaining cellular homeostasis and responding to stress. Consequently, these knockout cell lines have broad applications in both basic research and translational medicine, where they can accelerate the development of novel therapies and diagnostics.

Compared to traditional methods of gene disruption, USP21 Gene Knockout Cell Lines offer significant advantages, including higher precision, consistency, and reduced off-target effects. This specificity enhances the validity of experimental outcomes, providing researchers with more reliable data to support their hypotheses.

For researchers and clinicians looking to deepen their understanding of molecular mechanisms in health and disease, USP21 Gene Knockout Cell Lines are an indispensable asset.
