Gene: SNAP23
Official Full Name: synaptosome associated protein 23provided by HGNC
Gene Summary: Specificity of vesicular transport is regulated, in part, by the interaction of a vesicle-associated membrane protein termed synaptobrevin/VAMP with a target compartment membrane protein termed syntaxin. These proteins, together with SNAP25 (synaptosome-associated protein of 25 kDa), form a complex which serves as a binding site for the general membrane fusion machinery. Synaptobrevin/VAMP and syntaxin are believed to be involved in vesicular transport in most, if not all cells, while SNAP25 is present almost exclusively in the brain, suggesting that a ubiquitously expressed homolog of SNAP25 exists to facilitate transport vesicle/target membrane fusion in other tissues. The protein encoded by this gene is structurally and functionally similar to SNAP25 and binds tightly to multiple syntaxins and synaptobrevins/VAMPs. It is an essential component of the high affinity receptor for the general membrane fusion machinery and is an important regulator of transport vesicle docking and fusion. Two alternative transcript variants encoding different protein isoforms have been described for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

SNAP23 Gene Knockout Cell Lines are specialized cell models designed to facilitate the study of SNAP23, a critical protein involved in various cellular processes, including exocytosis and neurotransmitter release. By utilizing CRISPR-Cas9 technology, these cell lines have been engineered to disable the SNAP23 gene, enabling researchers to investigate the functional roles of this protein in a controlled environment.
The primary function of SNAP23 is to act as a key regulatory molecule in the SNARE (soluble N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive factor attachment protein receptor) complex, which mediates vesicle fusion with the plasma membrane. The knockout of SNAP23 allows for the dissociation of this complex, thereby disrupting exocytotic pathways. Researchers can use this cell line to delve into the molecular mechanics of synaptic transmission and hormone secretion, thereby elucidating the underlying mechanisms of various diseases linked to neuronal and endocrine dysfunction.
This product holds significant scientific importance in both research and clinical settings. Understanding the role of SNAP23 can provide insights into neurodegenerative disorders, diabetes, and other conditions characterized by impaired cell signaling. Additionally, these knockout cell lines can serve as valuable platforms for developing therapies targeting SNAP23-related pathways.
One of the key advantages of SNAP23 Gene Knockout Cell Lines is the precision offered by the CRISPR-Cas9 method, which ensures a clean and reproducible knockout, minimizing off-target effects often associated with other gene-editing techniques. Moreover, given the specificity of this knockout model, researchers can obtain clearer insights into SNAP23's functions compared to wild-type cell models or less specific knockdown approaches.
For researchers and clinicians seeking to gain deeper insights into cellular mechanisms or to develop novel therapeutic strategies, SNAP23 Gene Knockout Cell Lines provide an unparalleled tool. The precise targeting and high fidelity of these cell lines enable rigorous investigation of fundamental biological processes.
