Gene: SIRT7
Official Full Name: sirtuin 7provided by HGNC
Gene Summary: This gene encodes a member of the sirtuin family of proteins, homologs to the yeast Sir2 protein. Members of the sirtuin family are characterized by a sirtuin core domain and grouped into four classes. The functions of human sirtuins have not yet been determined; however, yeast sirtuin proteins are known to regulate epigenetic gene silencing and suppress recombination of rDNA. Studies suggest that the human sirtuins may function as intracellular regulatory proteins with mono-ADP-ribosyltransferase activity. The protein encoded by this gene is included in class IV of the sirtuin family. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

SIRT7 Gene Knockout Cell Lines are engineered cellular models designed to facilitate the study of the SIRT7 gene, which encodes for a member of the sirtuin family of proteins known to play crucial roles in cellular regulation, stress response, and metabolic pathways. By knocking out the SIRT7 gene, these cell lines allow researchers to investigate the gene's specific functions and its contributions to various biological processes, particularly in relation to epigenetic regulation, mitochondrial function, and cellular aging.
The key function of SIRT7 involves deacetylating proteins, which affects their activity and stability, thus influencing gene expression profiles and cellular responses to environmental stresses. The SIRT7 knockout cell lines offer a unique mechanism for elucidating the consequences of diminished SIRT7 activity in cellular contexts, aiding researchers in unraveling its involvement in diseases, such as cancer and metabolic disorders.
In both research and clinical settings, these cell lines are invaluable for drug discovery and biomarker identification, particularly in studies related to aging and metabolic health. Their application extends into fields such as regenerative medicine and potential therapeutic interventions targeting age-related conditions.
The specific advantages of SIRT7 Gene Knockout Cell Lines over traditional models include their highly controlled genetic background and reproducibility, enabling more accurate modeling of SIRT7-related pathways. Furthermore, these cell lines are rigorously characterized, ensuring consistency and reliability, thus providing researchers with a robust platform for experimental studies.
By utilizing SIRT7 Gene Knockout Cell Lines, researchers and clinicians gain significant insights into the molecular mechanisms underpinning various diseases, ultimately informing therapeutic strategies.
