S100A4 Knockout Cell Lines

Gene: S100A4

Official Full Name: S100 calcium binding protein A4provided by HGNC

Gene Summary: The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the S100 family of proteins containing 2 EF-hand calcium-binding motifs. S100 proteins are localized in the cytoplasm and/or nucleus of a wide range of cells, and involved in the regulation of a number of cellular processes such as cell cycle progression and differentiation. S100 genes include at least 13 members which are located as a cluster on chromosome 1q21. This protein may function in motility, invasion, and tubulin polymerization. Chromosomal rearrangements and altered expression of this gene have been implicated in tumor metastasis. Multiple alternatively spliced variants, encoding the same protein, have been identified. Background

S100A4 Gene Knockout Cell Lines are specifically engineered cellular systems that have had the S100A4 gene completely disrupted to study its function and the biological pathways it influences. S100A4, part of the S100 family of calcium-binding proteins, is known to play a critical role in cell motility, invasion, and metastasis, particularly in cancer research. By knocking out this gene, researchers can investigate its relevance in tumorigenesis and the metastatic process, providing insights into the underlying mechanisms of disease progression.

The primary function of these knockout cell lines is to enable the analysis of S100A4's role without the confounding influence of the gene itself. This is achieved through standard CRISPR/Cas9 gene-editing techniques, which ensure precise deletion of the S100A4 locus. Researchers can then examine alterations in cellular behavior, gene expression profiles, and signaling pathways, aiding in the identification of downstream effects and potential therapeutic targets.

The scientific significance of S100A4 Gene Knockout Cell Lines lies in their diverse applications across cancer research and therapeutic development. They offer a robust model for studying metastasis, understanding drug response, and dissecting molecular interactions that could lead to novel treatment strategies. Clinically, these cell lines could facilitate advancements in targeted therapies for various cancers characterized by S100A4 expression.
