RNF128 Knockout Cell Lines

Gene: RNF128

Official Full Name: ring finger protein 128provided by HGNC

Gene Summary: The protein encoded by this gene is a type I transmembrane protein that localizes to the endocytic pathway. This protein contains a RING zinc-finger motif and has been shown to possess E3 ubiquitin ligase activity. Expression of this gene in retrovirally transduced T cell hybridoma significantly inhibits activation-induced IL2 and IL4 cytokine production. Induced expression of this gene was observed in anergic CD4(+) T cells, which suggested a role in the induction of anergic phenotype. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been reported. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Background

RNF128 Gene Knockout Cell Lines are genetically modified cell lines designed to lack the expression of the RNF128 gene, which encodes a RING-finger E3 ubiquitin ligase known for its role in regulating cellular processes such as cell cycle progression, DNA repair, and apoptosis. These cell lines are instrumental for researchers aiming to dissect the function of RNF128 in various biological contexts, particularly in studies related to cancer biology and immune response.

The primary mechanism governing the utility of RNF128 knockout cell lines lies in their ability to facilitate loss-of-function studies. By eliminating RNF128 expression, researchers can observe phenotypic changes resulting from the absence of this key regulator. This is crucial for understanding how RNF128 contributes to tumorigenesis and the immune response, as its inhibition or deregulation has been implicated in various diseases. Additionally, these cell lines can serve as valuable tools for screening potential therapeutic agents that may target the pathways influenced by RNF128.

The scientific importance of RNF128 knockouts extends into both research and clinical applications. They are pivotal in identifying downstream effectors in RNF128-related signaling cascades, enabling a deeper exploration of its implications in cancer treatment and immunotherapy strategies. Compared to conventional methods of gene silencing, such as siRNA or shRNA approaches, knockout cell lines provide a permanent model, allowing for long-term studies and eliminating the variability associated with transient knockdown.

What sets RNF128 Gene Knockout Cell Lines apart from other genetic models is their ready-to-use nature, ensuring that researchers can streamline their experimental processes without the need for extensive validation. The specificity of the knockout also minimizes off-target effects, thereby enhancing the reliability of experimental results.

For researchers and clinicians alike, the ability to manipulate the RNF128 gene's activity is invaluable for advancing our understanding of cellular mechanisms and developing innovative therapeutic strategies.
