RFXANK Knockout Cell Lines

Gene: RFXANK

Official Full Name: regulatory factor X associated ankyrin containing proteinprovided by HGNC

Gene Summary: Major histocompatibility (MHC) class II molecules are transmembrane proteins that have a central role in development and control of the immune system. The protein encoded by this gene, along with regulatory factor X-associated protein and regulatory factor-5, forms a complex that binds to the X box motif of certain MHC class II gene promoters and activates their transcription. Once bound to the promoter, this complex associates with the non-DNA-binding factor MHC class II transactivator, which controls the cell type specificity and inducibility of MHC class II gene expression. This protein contains ankyrin repeats involved in protein-protein interactions. Mutations in this gene have been linked to bare lymphocyte syndrome type II, complementation group B. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2013]

Background

RFXANK Gene Knockout Cell Lines are a specialized biological research tool designed to facilitate the study of gene function related to the RFXANK gene, which is pivotal in various immunological responses and developmental processes. These cell lines have been genetically engineered to exhibit a complete knockout of the RFXANK gene, thereby allowing researchers to investigate the phenotypic consequences and molecular pathways affected by its absence.

The primary function of RFXANK Gene Knockout Cell Lines is to provide a controlled environment for experiments aimed at dissecting the role of RFXANK in immune system regulation, particularly its influence on Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) class II gene expression. By enabling scientists to observe the absence of RFXANK protein, these cell lines offer critical insights into the implications of its loss in cell signaling, immune responses, and potential susceptibility to diseases.

From a scientific perspective, these knockout cell lines are invaluable for basic and applied research, including drug discovery and gene therapy studies. Their use in clinical settings can extend to identifying new therapeutic targets for diseases characterized by aberrant immune responses, such as autoimmune disorders and certain cancers.

Compared to alternative experimental models, RFXANK Gene Knockout Cell Lines provide a more precise and reproducible means of exploring gene function without the variability introduced by in vivo models or partial gene silencing methods. Their use can significantly enhance the accuracy of studies related to immunological research and therapeutic development.

For researchers and clinicians, these cell lines represent a powerful tool that allows for the elucidation of complex genetic interactions and disease mechanisms. The insights gained from using these cell lines can translate into valuable diagnostic and therapeutic advancements.
