PRX Knockout Cell Lines

Gene: PRX

Official Full Name: periaxinprovided by HGNC

Gene Summary: This gene encodes a protein involved in peripheral nerve myelin upkeep. The encoded protein contains 2 PDZ domains which were named after PSD95 (post synaptic density protein), DlgA (Drosophila disc large tumor suppressor), and ZO1 (a mammalian tight junction protein). Two alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described for this gene which encode different protein isoforms and which are targeted differently in the Schwann cell. Mutations in this gene cause Charcot-Marie-Tooth neuoropathy, type 4F and Dejerine-Sottas neuropathy. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Background

PRX Gene Knockout Cell Lines are specifically engineered cellular models that have undergone precise genetic modification to deactivate or "knockout" the expression of the PRX gene. These cell lines are invaluable tools for researchers investigating the functional role of the PRX gene in various biological processes, including oxidative stress response, cellular signaling, and metabolic pathways. By providing a controlled environment in which the PRX gene is disrupted, these cell lines enable scientists to elucidate the gene's contributions to cellular behavior and its implications in disease.

The primary function of PRX Gene Knockout Cell Lines lies in their ability to facilitate targeted studies concerning gene function and regulation. Mechanistically, the knockout process involves the use of technologies such as CRISPR-Cas9, allowing for precise genomic edits which result in the gene's deactivation. This targeted approach leads to observable phenotypic changes and aberrations in metabolic functions, providing insights into the biological processes influenced by the PRX gene.

In both research and clinical contexts, these cell lines serve as essential tools for drug discovery, biomarker identification, and the development of therapeutic interventions, particularly in diseases where the PRX gene is implicated. Their unique capability to recreate specific genetic profiles aids researchers in understanding the etiology of various conditions and evaluating potential treatments.

Compared to traditional cell lines, the PRX Gene Knockout Cell Lines offer a significant advantage in terms of specificity and reliability. These models ensure reproducible and consistent results due to the precise nature of the knockout, reducing the variability often associated with other genetic manipulation techniques. Additionally, they eliminate off-target effects, enhancing experimental accuracy.

For researchers and clinicians, the value of PRX Gene Knockout Cell Lines is unmistakable. By providing keen insights into gene function, these cell lines pave the way for groundbreaking discoveries and innovative therapeutics, positioning them as essential components in advancing biomedical research.
