NCF2 Knockout Cell Lines

Gene: NCF2

Official Full Name: neutrophil cytosolic factor 2provided by HGNC

Gene Summary: This gene encodes neutrophil cytosolic factor 2, the 67-kilodalton cytosolic subunit of the multi-protein NADPH oxidase complex found in neutrophils. This oxidase produces a burst of superoxide which is delivered to the lumen of the neutrophil phagosome. Mutations in this gene, as well as in other NADPH oxidase subunits, can result in chronic granulomatous disease, a disease that causes recurrent infections by catalase-positive organisms. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms. [provided by RefSeq, Jun 2010]

Background

NCF2 Gene Knockout Cell Lines are specifically engineered cellular models that have had the NCF2 gene, which encodes the P47phox protein involved in NADPH oxidase complex function, selectively disrupted. By facilitating the study of reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and immune response pathways, these knockout cell lines provide researchers with a powerful tool for investigating the molecular mechanisms of various diseases, including inflammatory conditions, cancer, and autoimmune disorders.

The primary function of these cell lines rests in their ability to elucidate the role of NCF2 in phagocyte function and oxidative burst. When the NCF2 gene is knocked out, researchers can observe downstream cellular effects such as altered ROS levels and shifts in cellular signaling pathways, thus providing insight into the contribution of oxidative stress in disease pathology. This mechanism makes NCF2 Gene Knockout Cell Lines invaluable for both basic and translational research, allowing scientists to model disease processes and develop therapeutic interventions.

From a scientific perspective, these cell lines have immense applications in pharmacological studies, where they serve as models for testing the efficacy of anti-inflammatory agents and potential drugs designed to mitigate oxidative stress-related damage. Compared to traditional wild-type cell lines, the knockout variants offer a more controlled and specific environment to explore hypotheses regarding the NCF2 pathway, thereby yielding reproducible and relevant data.

One of the unique selling points of NCF2 Gene Knockout Cell Lines is the precision with which the NCF2 gene knockout is achieved, ensuring a high degree of specificity in experimental outcomes. Moreover, these cell lines come with a validated performance history, ensuring consistency and reliability in research applications. This advantage is particularly crucial in clinical settings, where accurate data is fundamental for advancing patient care.
