Gene: KLRC3
Official Full Name: killer cell lectin like receptor C3provided by HGNC
Gene Summary: Natural killer (NK) cells are lymphocytes that can mediate lysis of certain tumor cells and virus-infected cells without previous activation. They can also regulate specific humoral and cell-mediated immunity. NK cells preferentially express several calcium-dependent (C-type) lectins, which have been implicated in the regulation of NK cell function. KLRC3 is a member of the NKG2 group which are expressed primarily in natural killer (NK) cells and encodes a family of transmembrane proteins characterized by a type II membrane orientation (extracellular C terminus) and the presence of a C-type lectin domain. The NKG2 gene family is located within the NK complex, a region that contains several C-type lectin genes preferentially expressed on NK cells. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

KLRC3 Gene Knockout Cell Lines are precisely engineered cellular models used for in-depth studies of immune response and receptor functionality. Specifically, these cell lines have undergone targeted gene editing to disrupt the KLRC3 gene, which encodes a member of the killer cell lectin-like receptor family. The knockout of KLRC3 facilitates the investigation of its role in innate immunity and its interaction with natural killer (NK) cells, pivotal components in the body’s defense against tumors and virally-infected cells.
The primary function of KLRC3 involves modulating the activation and inhibitory signals transmitted by NK cells, thereby influencing immune responses. By utilizing these knockout cell lines, researchers can effectively study the signaling pathways and receptor-ligand interactions that dictate NK cell behavior, enabling a deeper understanding of immune regulation in both health and disease.
Scientifically, KLRC3 Gene Knockout Cell Lines hold substantial importance in immunology research, including cancer therapy and infectious disease studies. They provide a robust platform for assessing therapeutic interventions that could enhance NK cell activity, offering invaluable insights for potential clinical applications.
What sets these knockout cell lines apart from alternative models is the precision of CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing, which ensures complete functional abrogation of KLRC3, thus providing unparalleled consistency and reliability in experimental outcomes. This precise modification allows researchers to delineate the specific contributions of KLRC3 to immune function, facilitating high-resolution studies that are often obscured in wild-type cell lines.
