KIT Knockout Cell Lines

Gene: KIT

Official Full Name: KIT proto-oncogene, receptor tyrosine kinaseprovided by HGNC

Gene Summary: This gene encodes a receptor tyrosine kinase. This gene was initially identified as a homolog of the feline sarcoma viral oncogene v-kit and is often referred to as proto-oncogene c-Kit. The canonical form of this glycosylated transmembrane protein has an N-terminal extracellular region with five immunoglobulin-like domains, a transmembrane region, and an intracellular tyrosine kinase domain at the C-terminus. Upon activation by its cytokine ligand, stem cell factor (SCF), this protein phosphorylates multiple intracellular proteins that play a role in in the proliferation, differentiation, migration and apoptosis of many cell types and thereby plays an important role in hematopoiesis, stem cell maintenance, gametogenesis, melanogenesis, and in mast cell development, migration and function. This protein can be a membrane-bound or soluble protein. Mutations in this gene are associated with gastrointestinal stromal tumors, mast cell disease, acute myelogenous leukemia, and piebaldism. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, May 2020]

Background

KIT Gene Knockout Cell Lines are expertly engineered cell models that allow researchers to study the effects of the loss of function of the KIT gene, which encodes the receptor tyrosine kinase responsible for several essential cellular processes, including hematopoiesis, melanogenesis, and gastric motility. By employing precise genome-editing techniques such as CRISPR/Cas9, these knockout cell lines facilitate the exploration of the underlying mechanisms of diseases associated with KIT dysfunction, particularly in cancer, mastocytosis, and gastrointestinal disorders.

The primary function of KIT Gene Knockout Cell Lines is to serve as a versatile platform for functional assessments, drug testing, and therapeutic development. Researchers can utilize these cell lines to elucidate the molecular pathways affected by KIT loss, assess the efficacy of novel compounds targeting aberrant signaling pathways, and identify potential biomarkers for therapeutic responses. This capability is critical in both basic and translational research settings, where understanding the precise role of KIT in pathophysiology can lead to more effective treatment strategies.

What sets these knockout cell lines apart from alternatives is their rigorous validation and reproducibility, ensuring that results derived from experiments are reliable and meaningful. Additionally, our cell lines are available in various backgrounds, providing flexibility for specific research needs and enabling comparative studies across different genetic contexts.

For researchers and clinicians, the KIT Gene Knockout Cell Lines represent an invaluable resource, enabling the advancement of knowledge in cancer biology and therapeutic interventions. Their ease of use, consistent performance, and support for high-throughput screening make them an essential tool in any laboratory focused on genetic research or drug discovery.
