GDI2 Knockout Cell Lines

Gene: GDI2

Official Full Name: GDP dissociation inhibitor 2provided by HGNC

Gene Summary: GDP dissociation inhibitors are proteins that regulate the GDP-GTP exchange reaction of members of the rab family, small GTP-binding proteins of the ras superfamily, that are involved in vesicular trafficking of molecules between cellular organelles. GDIs slow the rate of dissociation of GDP from rab proteins and release GDP from membrane-bound rabs. GDI2 is ubiquitously expressed. The GDI2 gene contains many repetitive elements indicating that it may be prone to inversion/deletion rearrangements. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Background

GDI2 Gene Knockout Cell Lines are specialized cellular models that have undergone targeted gene disruption of the guanine nucleotide dissociation inhibitor 2 (GDI2) gene. This innovative approach allows researchers to investigate the contributions of GDI2 in various biological processes and disease states. By utilizing CRISPR/Cas9 technology, these knockout cell lines provide a precise method for elucidating the role of GDI2 in cellular signaling, growth, and differentiation.

The primary function of GDI2 involves regulating the activity of small GTPases, which are pivotal in controlling signaling pathways linked to cellular growth and metabolism. The GDI2 knockout leads to hyperactivation of its target GTPases, consequently influencing processes such as cell proliferation, apoptosis, and oncogenesis. Researchers increasingly recognize the importance of this gene in understanding cancer biology, neurodegenerative diseases, and immune responses, making the GDI2 knockout cell lines invaluable tools in both basic and translational research.

What sets GDI2 Gene Knockout Cell Lines apart from other available models is their ability to provide insights into GDI2-specific pathways without the confounding effects of other regulatory mechanisms. Furthermore, these cell lines maintain consistent and reproducible results, crucial for experimental validation and protocol standardization.

For researchers and clinicians, having access to these specific knockout cell lines enhances their ability to design experiments aimed at identifying potential therapeutic targets and elucidating disease mechanisms. Moreover, the GDI2 knockout models facilitate high-throughput screening of drug candidates, contributing to accelerated drug discovery processes.
