Gene: FGF18
Official Full Name: fibroblast growth factor 18provided by HGNC
Gene Summary: The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family. FGF family members possess broad mitogenic and cell survival activities, and are involved in a variety of biological processes, including embryonic development, cell growth, morphogenesis, tissue repair, tumor growth, and invasion. It has been shown in vitro that this protein is able to induce neurite outgrowth in PC12 cells. Studies of the similar proteins in mouse and chick suggested that this protein is a pleiotropic growth factor that stimulates proliferation in a number of tissues, most notably the liver and small intestine. Knockout studies of the similar gene in mice implied the role of this protein in regulating proliferation and differentiation of midline cerebellar structures. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

FGF18 Gene Knockout Cell Lines are specifically engineered cellular models designed to study the fibroblast growth factor 18 (FGF18) gene's role in various biological processes. By selectively disrupting the FGF18 gene, these knockout cell lines allow researchers to investigate the gene’s functional implications in cellular signaling, proliferation, and differentiation. The mechanisms underlying the action of FGF18 are critical in various contexts, including development, tissue repair, and disease pathology, making this product a vital tool for understanding its role in these processes.
The importance of FGF18 gene knockout cell lines extends beyond basic research; they are invaluable in preclinical studies and can guide therapeutic development, particularly in areas like regenerative medicine and cancer therapy. By providing a model to observe the absence of FGF18, researchers can elucidate its contributions to tumor microenvironments, osteogenesis, and approaches for cellular therapy. This aligns with current trends in translational research aimed at developing targeted therapies that are based on specific genetic alterations.
What sets FGF18 Gene Knockout Cell Lines apart from other cellular models is their high specificity and reproducibility, ensuring that experimental results are both reliable and applicable across various research domains. Moreover, these cell lines come with comprehensive analytical support, allowing for optimized experimental design and interpretation.
For researchers and clinicians alike, the ability to manipulate and study gene function in a controlled environment holds immense value. The insights gained from utilizing FGF18 gene knockout cell lines can lead to breakthroughs in understanding complex biological pathways and accelerating the transition from lab discoveries to clinical applications.
