ELAVL2 Knockout Cell Lines

Gene: ELAVL2

Official Full Name: ELAV like RNA binding protein 2provided by HGNC

Gene Summary: In humans, the ELAV like RNA binding protein gene family has four members (ELAVL1-4). ELAVL RNA binding proteins recognize AU-rich elements in the 3' UTRs of gene transcripts and thereby regulate gene expression post-transcriptionally. The protein encoded by this gene binds to several 3' UTRs, including its own and also that of FOS, ID, and POU5F1. This gene encodes ELAVL2 and, like ELAVL3 and ELAVL4, is expressed specifically in neurons and primarily localizes to the cytoplasm. This protein also forms a cytosolic complex with the normally nuclear-localized ELAVL1 protein. Alternative splicing of this gene results in multiple transcript variants encoding distinct protein isoforms. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2020]

Background

ELAVL2 Gene Knockout Cell Lines represent a cutting-edge tool designed for the in-depth study of the ELAVL2 gene's cellular functions and its implications in various biological processes. These cell lines have been genetically engineered to lack the ELAVL2 gene, enabling researchers to investigate the role of this RNA-binding protein in gene expression regulation, cellular signaling, and response to stress. Through precise knockout techniques, these cell lines provide a controlled environment to analyze the downstream effects of ELAVL2 absence in various cellular contexts.

The primary function of ELAVL2 is to stabilize mRNA and regulate its translation, impacting several cellular pathways including apoptosis, differentiation, and development. By utilizing these knockout cell lines, researchers can elucidate the specific mechanisms through which ELAVL2 influences RNA metabolism and cellular stress responses, offering insights into its potential involvement in disease states such as cancer and neurodegenerative disorders.

The scientific importance of ELAVL2 Gene Knockout Cell Lines is considerable, as they serve as valuable resources for both basic and applied research. In clinical settings, they may facilitate the development of therapeutic strategies that target ELAVL2-related pathways, contributing to personalized medicine efforts in oncology and other fields.

When compared to alternative models, such as wild-type cell lines or transient knockdown approaches, these knockout cell lines offer more stable and reproducible results, allowing for longitudinal studies and more comprehensive analyses. This consistency is crucial for high-quality research that seeks to identify critical interactions and potential therapeutic targets.

For researchers and clinicians, ELAVL2 Gene Knockout Cell Lines provide a unique opportunity to further our understanding of RNA-binding proteins in health and disease, supporting the discovery of innovative treatment avenues.
