CEBPA Knockout Cell Lines

Gene: CEBPA

Official Full Name: CCAAT enhancer binding protein alphaprovided by HGNC

Gene Summary: This intronless gene encodes a transcription factor that contains a basic leucine zipper (bZIP) domain and recognizes the CCAAT motif in the promoters of target genes. The encoded protein functions in homodimers and also heterodimers with CCAAT/enhancer-binding proteins beta and gamma. Activity of this protein can modulate the expression of genes involved in cell cycle regulation as well as in body weight homeostasis. Mutation of this gene is associated with acute myeloid leukemia. The use of alternative in-frame non-AUG (GUG) and AUG start codons results in protein isoforms with different lengths. Differential translation initiation is mediated by an out-of-frame, upstream open reading frame which is located between the GUG and the first AUG start codons. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2013]

Background

CEBPA gene knockout cell lines are genetically engineered cell lines in which the CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein alpha (CEBPA) gene has been systematically disrupted. This product serves as a vital tool for researchers investigating the biological roles of CEBPA, a transcription factor significantly involved in hematopoiesis and cellular differentiation. By employing gene knockout techniques, these cell lines facilitate the study of CEBPA's regulatory functions and its broader implications in various biological pathways.

The mechanism of action for CEBPA knockout cell lines lies in the targeted gene disruption, which effectively removes the expression of the CEBPA protein. This alteration allows researchers to observe the resultant phenotypic changes, providing insights into the gene's functional contribution to cell proliferation, apoptosis, and metabolic regulation. Additionally, these knockout cell lines serve as an ideal model for studying the molecular underpinnings of diseases such as acute myeloid leukemia (AML), where CEBPA mutations are prevalent.

From a scientific perspective, these cell lines have substantial applications in research, particularly within oncology and developmental biology. Their ability to model the loss of CEBPA function opens avenues for understanding the mechanisms behind tumor growth and the development of targeted therapies. Furthermore, they hold promise in therapeutic screening and drug development, as well as studies aimed at elucidating the transcriptional networks involved in hematopoietic lineage specification.

What sets CEBPA gene knockout cell lines apart from alternative products is their specificity and reliability. Unlike conventional methods, such as global gene knockdown techniques, these knockout lines provide robust models that ensure precise targeting of the CEBPA gene, thereby minimizing off-target effects. This precision enhances experimental reproducibility and allows for the acquisition of high-quality data.

For researchers and clinicians looking to deepen their understanding of CEBPA's role in health and disease, these knockout cell lines represent an invaluable resource. They enable the exploration of critical pathways that govern cell fate decisions, with implications for the development of novel therapeutic strategies aimed at diseases rooted in CEBPA dysfunction.

With extensive expertise in genetic engineering and cellular biology, our company is committed to providing high-quality biological products that meet the rigorous standards of the scientific community.
