Gene: CDH8
Official Full Name: cadherin 8provided by HGNC
Gene Summary: This gene encodes a type II classical cadherin from the cadherin superfamily, integral membrane proteins that mediate calcium-dependent cell-cell adhesion. Mature cadherin proteins are composed of a large N-terminal extracellular domain, a single membrane-spanning domain, and a small, highly conserved C-terminal cytoplasmic domain. The extracellular domain consists of 5 subdomains, each containing a cadherin motif, and appears to determine the specificity of the protein's homophilic cell adhesion activity. Type II (atypical) cadherins are defined based on their lack of a HAV cell adhesion recognition sequence specific to type I cadherins. This particular cadherin is expressed in brain and is putatively involved in synaptic adhesion, axon outgrowth and guidance. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

CDH8 Gene Knockout Cell Lines represent a cutting-edge advancement in cellular and molecular biology research, providing a reliable tool for the study of cell adhesion dynamics and signaling pathways. These specialized cell lines are created through the targeted knockout of the Cadherin 8 (CDH8) gene, which encodes a protein integral to intercellular adhesion and tissue architecture. By inhibiting CDH8 expression, researchers can investigate the consequences of its absence, allowing for deeper insights into developmental processes, tumorigenesis, and cellular communication.
The primary mechanism by which CDH8 Gene Knockout Cell Lines operate involves the cessation of cadherin-mediated adhesion, leading to alterations in cellular morphology, migration, and proliferation. This disruption facilitates the examination of cellular behaviors associated with various biological phenomena, such as epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and cancer metastasis. The availability of these cell lines offers a unique opportunity to elucidate the role of CDH8 in both physiological and pathological contexts, making them invaluable for academics and clinicians alike.
In terms of scientific importance, CDH8 Gene Knockout Cell Lines play a pivotal role in exploring targeted therapies and gene function. They serve as essential models for drug screening and validation, particularly in cancer research, where aberrant cadherin expression is linked to poor prognosis and treatment resistance. The unique selling points of these cell lines lie in their specificity and reproducibility compared to traditional methods, enabling precision studies that can accelerate discoveries.
