Gene: AZIN1
Official Full Name: antizyme inhibitor 1provided by HGNC
Gene Summary: The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the antizyme inhibitor family, which plays a role in cell growth and proliferation by maintaining polyamine homeostasis within the cell. Antizyme inhibitors are homologs of ornithine decarboxylase (ODC, the key enzyme in polyamine biosynthesis) that have lost the ability to decarboxylase ornithine; however, retain the ability to bind to antizymes. Antizymes negatively regulate intracellular polyamine levels by binding to ODC and targeting it for degradation, as well as by inhibiting polyamine uptake. Antizyme inhibitors function as positive regulators of polyamine levels by sequestering antizymes and neutralizing their effect. This gene encodes antizyme inhibitor 1, the first member of this gene family that is ubiquitously expressed, and is localized in the nucleus and cytoplasm. Overexpression of antizyme inhibitor 1 gene has been associated with increased proliferation, cellular transformation and tumorigenesis. Gene knockout studies showed that homozygous mutant mice lacking functional antizyme inhibitor 1 gene died at birth with abnormal liver morphology. RNA editing of this gene, predominantly in the liver tissue, has been linked to the progression of hepatocellular carcinoma. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2014]

AZIN1 Gene Knockout Cell Lines are genetically modified cell lines specifically constructed to express a complete knockout of the AZIN1 (Antizyme Inhibitor 1) gene. These cell lines provide an invaluable tool for researchers investigating the functional roles of the AZIN1 protein in cellular processes, particularly its involvement in polyamine metabolism and its regulatory impact on cell growth. By utilizing CRISPR/Cas9 technology, these knockout cell lines ensure precise and efficient gene editing, eliminating the AZIN1 protein's expression, which allows for the study of its downstream effects.
The primary mechanism of these cell lines involves the disruption of the AZIN1 gene, leading to altered intracellular polyamine levels that can affect cellular proliferation and differentiation. Researchers can leverage these models to explore how AZIN1 knockout influences various pathways, including apoptosis, proliferation, and responses to stressors, thereby evaluating potential implications for cancer research and other diseases linked to dysregulated polyamine metabolism.
In addition to their scientific importance in understanding fundamental biological processes, AZIN1 Gene Knockout Cell Lines hold clinical significance. They can be employed in drug discovery and development, allowing for the identification of novel therapeutic targets for conditions associated with aberrant polyamine signaling. The ability to study the biological implications of AZIN1 deficiency can also provide insights into the pathology of various cancers and metabolic disorders.
What sets AZIN1 Gene Knockout Cell Lines apart from alternative models is their enhanced specificity and versatility. Unlike conventional cell lines that may retain partial gene functions or exhibit variability in expression levels, these fully validated knockout lines offer consistency, ensuring reliable experimental outcomes. Furthermore, these cell lines can be easily adapted for high-throughput screening and novel applications in personalized medicine, making them highly valuable in contemporary research.
Researchers and clinicians benefit from using AZIN1 Gene Knockout Cell Lines, as they not only contribute to a deeper understanding of AZIN1’s role in health and disease but also pave the way for innovative therapeutic strategies. With a commitment to advancing biological research, our company provides robust, expertly engineered cell lines that empower researchers to explore the complexities of gene function and regulation with confidence.
