AGRN Knockout Cell Lines

Gene: AGRN

Official Full Name: agrinprovided by HGNC

Gene Summary: This gene encodes one of several proteins that are critical in the development of the neuromuscular junction (NMJ), as identified in mouse knock-out studies. The encoded protein contains several laminin G, Kazal type serine protease inhibitor, and epidermal growth factor domains. Additional post-translational modifications occur to add glycosaminoglycans and disulfide bonds. In one family with congenital myasthenic syndrome affecting limb-girdle muscles, a mutation in this gene was found. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms. [provided by RefSeq, Mar 2015]

Background

AGRN Gene Knockout Cell Lines are specialized cellular models designed to study the function of the agrin gene (AGRN) by providing a controlled environment in which this gene has been intentionally disrupted. Agrin is crucial for neuromuscular junction (NMJ) formation and synaptic transmission, making the knockout of this gene a powerful tool in elucidating its role in muscle development and neurological disorders. Through precise gene-editing technologies, such as CRISPR-Cas9, these cell lines facilitate the investigation of molecular pathways influenced by agrin, allowing researchers to dissect the underlying mechanisms of muscle and nerve interactions.

The primary function of AGRN Knockout Cell Lines lies in their ability to model the absence of agrin, enabling comprehensive studies on the structure and dynamics of NMJs. In addition, these cell lines provide insights into agrin's role in various pathologies, such as congenital myasthenic syndromes and neurodegenerative diseases. In research settings, they serve as invaluable tools for drug screening, target validation, and translational studies aimed at developing innovative therapeutic approaches.

One of the standout advantages of AGRN Gene Knockout Cell Lines is their specificity and reproducibility compared to traditional knockout models, which can exhibit variable phenotypes. Our product offers a robust platform for consistent, experimental validation of agrin's functions across different research applications. Furthermore, these cell lines are meticulously characterized, ensuring that they meet the stringent requirements for quality needed in advanced biological research.

Researchers and clinicians alike will find that these cell lines significantly reduce the time and resources typically associated with developing knockout models, streamlining experimental workflows and enhancing productivity. The availability of AGRN Gene Knockout Cell Lines contributes to advancements in the understanding of neuromuscular junction biology and the development of targeted therapies.
