Gene: ADCY6
Official Full Name: adenylate cyclase 6provided by HGNC
Gene Summary: This gene encodes a member of the adenylyl cyclase family of proteins, which are required for the synthesis of cyclic AMP. All members of this family have an intracellular N-terminus, a tandem repeat of six transmembrane domains separated by a cytoplasmic loop, and a C-terminal cytoplasmic domain. The two cytoplasmic regions bind ATP and form the catalytic core of the protein. Adenylyl cyclases are important effectors of transmembrane signaling pathways and are regulated by the activity of G protein coupled receptor signaling. This protein belongs to a small subclass of adenylyl cyclase proteins that are functionally related and are inhibited by protein kinase A, calcium ions and nitric oxide. A mutation in this gene is associated with arthrogryposis multiplex congenita. [provided by RefSeq, May 2015]

ADCY6 Gene Knockout Cell Lines represent a cutting-edge tool in the field of molecular biology, specifically designed for the study of adenylyl cyclase 6 (ADCY6) function. These cell lines have been genetically engineered to contain a targeted knockout of the ADCY6 gene, which encodes an enzyme pivotal in the synthesis of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP). By inhibiting this gene, researchers can directly assess the role of cAMP signaling in various cellular processes, including hormone response, neuronal communication, and apoptosis.
The primary mechanism by which these cell lines function revolves around the disruption of ADCY6's activity, leading to diminished cAMP production. This provides a unique experimental opportunity to elucidate the downstream effects of reduced cAMP levels on cell signaling pathways, thereby advancing our understanding of diseases linked to dysregulated pathways, such as heart disease and metabolic disorders.
In research and clinical environments, these knockout cell lines serve as invaluable models for studying the physiological and pathological implications of altered cAMP signaling. Their application extends to drug discovery and testing, where they might be utilized to identify potential therapeutic agents that target cAMP-regulated pathways, offering a pathway for innovative treatments.
What sets ADCY6 Gene Knockout Cell Lines apart from other genetic models is their high specificity and adaptability to various experimental setups. Researchers benefit from their robust reliability, ease of use, and comprehensive characterization, which reduces variability and enhances reproducibility in experiments.
These cell lines are particularly valuable to researchers focused on cellular signaling cascades, providing insights that could lead to groundbreaking discoveries in both academic and pharmaceutical contexts.
