Cellulase is a group of enzymes that degrade cellulose to produce glucose, mainly consisting of endoglucanase and exoglucanases including cellobiohydrolases and β-glucosidase. In the natural environment, fungi, bacteria, and actinomycetes are efficient cellulase-producing microorganisms. As one of the most widely used enzymes in industry, the demand for cellulases is currently growing exponentially in the global market. However, there are huge bottlenecks in the industrial application of cellulases, such as high production cost and low catalytic efficiency of cellulases.
